Residential & Commercial Insulation

Insulation

Introduction

Why insulate your home?

Insulation plays a key role in maintaining indoor comfort keeping the heat in during winter and out during summer.

If your home was built before the 1980s, it likely has little or no insulation. This contributes to many NZ properties being cold, damp, and expensive to heat.

The benefits of insulation:

  • Year-round comfort - stay warm in winter and cool in summer.
  • Lower energy bills - insulation reduces heat loss, helping you save on power costs.
  • Healthier living - a dry, warm home helps reduce mould, dampness, and health issues.
  • Smart investment - improve your quality of life and add long-term value to your property.

Ceiling Insulation

Ceiling Insulation

Have you checked your ceiling recently? Is there insulation? If not, then you will need some!!

If you do, we can check it meets the correct standard.

You will need additional insulation if any existing insulation is old, has  gaps, doesn't cover the entire ceiling, and/or is less than 100mm in thickness. Existing insulation will need to be removed if it is wet/damp or has been damaged by vermin nests.

Underfloor Insulation

Underfloor Insulation

You can also check your underfloor insulation if you have suitable access to do so. Underfloor insulation should be s tapled to the joists. If you can't see any then you really need some!

Your underfloor insulation needs replacing if the existing insulation is degraded, or if the foil has been damaged by rips, tears, vermin nests or mould.

Ground Vapour Barrier

Ground Vapour Barrier

Many New Zealand homes can benefit from ground vapour barriers being installed. These typically help with dampness and moisture issues.

What is a ground vapour barrier? It is a 250 micron thick polythene sheet which is pinned to the ground and taped around pillars. This ensures there is long lasting protection from the rising damp and cold.

You could qualify for the Warmer Kiwi Home grant of up to 80-90% of the total cost of installing ceiling insulation, underfloor insulation and a ground vapour barrier in your home

In some areas the cost to you may be even lower thanks to generous funding from community organisations.
